THE ART OF SKETCHING
The Art Of Sketching
Spent some time this morning going through files on an ancient Seagate portable hard drive. Since getting my first computer back in the late 1990s I’ve produced thousands of files, projects, writing and sketches and paintings. Amazing, at least to me, what I’ve produced. Sad, as there will come a time when all of this will become landfill. Life, I suppose? We think of ourselves as important, and one day must admit that other than to ourselves, we weren’t.
Anyway, while amusing myself, remembering this and that, I came across a couple of things that might be of interest about the art of sketching. Here’s a sketch that I did up in Lake Superior Provincial Park of Katherine’s Cove…. The sketch was made quickly, as we had other places to see and sketch. However, there's enough information within the scribbling, reinforced by memories of actually being there, to create a painting, or drawing, or two, upon returning home.
Just to mention, making sketches is not confined to Landscape, sketches can be made of anything and become a collection of idea contained in a sketchbook. Some artists, Me, Myself, and I, have several sketchbooks, some that have some pretty crude sketches with notes written …..
Sketchbooks, small sketches, even a few lines scribbled become a a diary of sorts, to look at when you’re old and grey, allowing one to remember when life was good, and filled with mystery.
