Trump vs. Democracy

January 28, 2025: I’m attempting to determine whether Donald Trump has dictator etched in his smile, or whether he’s simply a narcissistic oligarch. You’ve got to hand it to the guy, whatever he turns out to be it’s been a long cleverly thought out path that he’s followed. Not only is he on the cusp of rewriting history, but he’s cleverly destroying democracy with democracy. 

Democracy has always been an experiment, the laws of which constantly being rewritten to assist with the rule of the people.  These laws are now being rewritten once again. Previous liberalizations  are now being turned back as failed experiments. The US is returning to a simplistic version of democracy, and further experimentation, without admitting that democracy is, and always will be, a failed experiment. Democracy in the US is about to be, or has been, replaced by an autocratic government.

Meanwhile Canadian and Mexican politicians apprehensively await February 1st, while government leaders worldwide await their turn to attempt to stare down the beast, a Hitlerite moment in history.
