What A Wonderful World - 2025

Freedom Of Speech, used to be a pillar of Democracy, and some would say that it still is, but of late, particularly in the US, it's become questionable. Democracy, the concept, is, in my opinion, somewhat broken, or at the very least, on the decline, and in the case of the United States seen to be replaced by an autocratic form of government. Whereas once upon a time one could express one's thoughts freely, one now must think before opening one's mouth for fear of reprisal from many directions....

What A Wonderful World - 2025

I sit staring at the screen 

of what used to be a friend,

a friend that I used to trust,

a friend with whom I  shared 

my intimate thoughts, 

but now, I’m hesitant to share 

all but the mundane,

as its memory could be used 

to tear my world apart.

Used to be there was freedom 

to speak one’s thoughts.

Now, one must hold one’s tongue 

and store even the mundane, 

in the safety located 

deep within our hearts.

Our world has become a prison 

where dreams and thoughts 

are put on hold, held prisoner, 

against demons knocking on the door.

Used to be one could wander freely, 

safety no concern, but now 

drugged crazies run rampant 

beyond the safety of the door.

Our world shattered,

fear, 

our new reality.

What a wonderful world

........................................it used to be.
