Keep Reading and Writing, as....
There seems very little that we can do to stop our physical decline. I know because I’ve tried. I exercise daily, but the crepe skin keeps creeping, and the stairs get steeper, but playing with words helps, I believe, helps to keep the intellect and our interest in life, somewhat, intact. The loss of intellect leads to a rapid decline of interest in living, and death; something I’ve seen caring for family members over the years. So everyone reading this, keep reading and writing as it’s all that we, some of you, will have left…
AND SO IT GOES
Ageing brings it on,
moments when we long
to discuss days long gone, and
discover that we have fallen
far behind the times.
Time, of course,
does not stand still, and
it’s hard to admit,
that we’ve grown old, and that
the village in which you grew
is now beyond the limits of a town ,
with few who would remember
you, or the time you represent.
You reach out, then quickly
draw back, fearing rejection
for subjecting those around
to endless chatter of moments that,
no longer matter.
It’s a lonely time for certain,
waiting to catch up with
long lost friends,
long gone.
And so I write…..
