The Decline of the Middle Class,

The Decline of the Middle Class,

or where have the Good Times gone.

The world that I now live in, is in chaos. An oligarch by the name of Donald Trump has ascended to the American throne, legally, for the moment, dismissing anyone who would oppose his whim of the day.

Back in the day, that period following the end of the Second World War, when I was but a young boy, things were much different. The world was adjusting to a temporary truce from war, attempting to put in place rules for an economic recovery that would rebuilt shattered economies. Times were tough, as the boys of war returned and resumed jobs maintained by wives and mothers. Hope sprung for lasting peace, and the benefits that were due the victors. Slowly economies regained strength and influence, culminating in a period of perceived economic security for  those not rich, but who were believed not poor, an element of the new society called the Middle Class. Times were heady. New found wealth was splurged spurring on seemingly unlimited credit, allowing the middle class to mortgage their futures. Countries fed on the dreams of the middle class, helping the rich to get richer, and the middle class become poor. Came the period when debt caught up with wealth, and the decay of the middle class, spurred on by economic failures,  would result in a nightmare of failed dreams. The rich, satiated by wealth, looked to the power of economics , a chance, long in the waiting, to change the world’s order, and maintain the power of their wealth.

As for the so called middle class, a dream spent. Good times were had by all, but the party now over, they’re slowly being shuffled back to their place in history, one that recognizes only the rich, and the poor, a return to a Dark Age,

and the rise of A.I.
