I WRITE.....because

It seems that a lot, and I do mean a lot, of people write poetry. For example the Poetry Foundation out of Chicago receives 150,000 submissions each year and has almost 49,000 poems in their collection….and this is only one source. So one might ask why do people write poetry with so much competition to have their poetry read, and possibly published.

I believe, my thoughts are, that it is a cathartic experience, a means of releasing pent up emotion regardless of whether your poem is understood, or even read. The fact that it is written, out in the open, somehow adds purpose to one's existence, "I think, so therefore I am". It definitely can’t be for wealth. Perhaps, it’s for notoriety, bragging rights…. Why do I write poetry, prose, nonsense? Probably, because it’s helps to justify my existence, and a means to answer questions that I wouldn’t ask anyone else.

So, anyway, it is interesting why so many people write poetry, anything for that matter……

I Write

I write because I must.

I write about things that no one wants to read, and

no one wants to hear.

I write because the words keep coming, stories

I wish to tell, give purpose to my coming, and going,

destiny might tell.

So many, such as me, have come and gone,

some  eulogized in song, but of these mortals, with

deeds outstanding, no history carries on,

just tales that with time,

forgotten.

So, I write about concerns of life and death,

and things between real and myth, and

as for my story,

read between the lines,

I was here,

my price paid with words, and

now I creep towards an ending,

with hope,

one day be heard.
