SNOW
Global warming has had some competition in our area these past few days with continuous blowing snow, and now becoming very cold. But then, who's to know....
SNOW
Snow,
what vision it conjures,
flakes made of crystals
no two the same,
falling,
drifting,
gently,
to the earth below,
blanketing the ground,
gathering in drifts,
swirled all around,
obscuring all vision
in whiteout conditions.
We all hunker down,
waiting,
waiting,
so long it would seem,
for the snow to stop falling
and remove all our fear,
of driving,
of crashing,
of slipping
and falling,
of freezing
and sneezing,
brought on by the snow.

BIRD ON A FENCE
I wouldnʼt want to be a bird in the winter
perched alone on a fence
cold and shivering without a nest
snow flurries blowing
furiously
temperature dropping
daylight waning
danger lurking.
No,
I really wouldnʼt want to be a bird
in the winter.
No, come to think of it,
I wouldn't want to be a bird at all.
Iʼm happy being me
without the fleas,
the lice,
the mice,
and other birds that arenʼt so nice.
Itʼs true that being me is,
at times,
not so nice, but
in winter,
itʼs certainly much better
here in my house,
warm as toast,
instead
of perching on a fence,
alone,
without a nest,
with snow flurries blowing,
and temperatures dropping.
No,
I wouldn't want to be a bird
in the winter.
