A PLACE TO REST
I've never been one to favour Nursing Homes, which some refer to as Retirement Homes. With the pandemic, it's come to light that much of what persons have been complaining about regarding their operation as for profit facilities was a legitimate reason for concern. Nursing Homes/Retirement Homes housing the sick and elderly have been the centre of serious infections and deaths. Now, the government(s) have vowed to make changes in their operation.
I gained some knowledge about nursing homes when my elderly aunt was admitted to one of these facilities, causing me to write the following:
A HOME IS A PLACE TO REST
A home is a place to rest.
A nursing home is not the best,
place to rest.
Itʼs a place of last resort,
but certainly not a resort.
A door opens and locks you in.
Thereʼs no escape until your journey ends.
Youʼve joined the group of forgotten souls, but not for long
for soon you will be gone.
Gone to where, no one knows.
Heaven some say,
as they drift away
to dreams of yesterday.
No,
a nursing home is not the best place to rest.
Itʼs definitely a place of last resort,
a place where you will find,
little rest,
a place where your dreams,
of peace and quiet
are replaced by nightmares,
some would say,
as you cringe and try to hide away from minds demented,
souls possessed,
caregivers who,
could care less,
about your care.
No,
a nursing home is not the best place to rest,
itʼs hell at best.
