CORONAVIRUS
March 20, 2020
The outbreak of a novel coronavirus in Wuhan, China, has spread rapidly all over the world resulting in the World Health Organization to declare a pandemic. Our world, our day to day lives, have changed involving social distancing, and isolation to help to stop the spread.....
CORONAVIRUS
Although it was still dark outside, and
black as pitch in the bedroom,
I was wakened by a chorus of birds singing,
rejoicing no doubt,
the arrival of the spring equinox,
a warm zephyr, and
rain,
in place of snow.
Do the birds know, I thought?
From the security of sleep my mind awoke to thoughts of the previous day, and
slipped into overdrive,
as I returned
to reality.
Today, wont be like every other day.
no, today will be much like yesterday,
reduced traffic, few people on the streets, and
despite the fact that the schools have been shut down,
few children in the playground,
in the park at the back of our home.
No, today won’t be like other days,
days it seems,
now long gone,
when,
in reality,
it was only a few yesterdays when things,
life,
seemed to hold,
promise,
promise for better times,
times,
to enjoy.
Now,
Nature it would seem,
has seen fit,
to send
the apocalyptic horsemen,
to remind humanity of their frailty, and
of their place in the nature of things.
A coronavirus,
a warning perhaps,
of questionable source,
is infecting humanity .
Isolation,
quarantine,
the only protection.
Life continues of course, but
not as before,
as humanity wonders,
what nature has in store.
I wander to the kitchen, and
with coffee in hand,
I listen to the birds sing as before,
and wonder,
what do they know?
In the twilight I notice that the rain has helped patches of snow to fade away. Patches of grass can be seen here and there in twilight’s dimness. Spring will soon be here. And I wonder…
Will I?
Will you……?
